Second YTS Fund Raising Dinner
The 2nd Tun Suffian Foundation Fund Raising Dinner
Saturday 7th August 2010 at 8.00 pm
at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur
Since its establishment on 11 June 2002 under the Joint Royal Patronage of Their Royal Highnesses the Sultan and the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, the Tun Suffian Foundation has, among other things, awarded financial assistance to young Malaysians pursuing law studies and young lawyers attending educational seminars and conferences both here and abroad.
The most prestigious of these awards is the Cambridge Tun Suffian Scholarship, modelled on the Rhodes Scholarships, the oldest international fellowships initiated after the death of Cecil Rhodes in 1902 to bring outstanding students to the University of Oxford.
The Tun Suffian Scholarship has received official recognition from the authorities at Cambridge. In March 2008, Low Weng Tchung, a Perak-born Malaysian student became the first Tun Suffian Scholar at Cambridge where he obtained a first class in the LLM degree. In December 2009, Azlin binti Sabtu, a Senior Federal Counsel at the Malaysian Attorney-General’s Chambers currently pursuing the LLM degree in Cambridge, became the second Tun Suffian Cambridge Scholar.
Since the beginning of this academic year, the Board resolved to make the following awards to deserving Malaysians studying at Malaysian public universities:
- LLB (10 scholarships);
- LLM (11 scholarships):
- PhD (12 Scholarships).
As the Foundation thrives only on the affection and generosity of close friends, relatives and admirers of the late Tun, the Foundation now proposes to organise its second Fundraising Charity Dinner and would like to appeal to you once again for your generous support.
A joint-Committee consisting of members of the Bench, the Bar, the A-G’s Chambers and Trustees of the Foundation has been set up to organise this Charity Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on 7th August 2010. Their Royal Highnesses the Sultan and the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, as Joint Royal Patrons of the Foundation, have kindly agreed to grace the occasion.
